Dear WSU community,
After careful deliberation and consideration of the 150+ applications
received, we are pleased to announce the appointment of 21 new members to
the advisory committee that will lead the search for Washington State
University’s 12th president. These appointments
complete the 25‑member Presidential Search Advisory Committee, which also
includes four regent members.
The full committee includes representation from many of the WSU community
groups who have an interest in the long-term success of the institution,
including students, faculty, staff, alumni, administrative leadership,
community leaders, and employers from across the state of Washington. The
varied nature of their affiliation with WSU enables each of the newly
appointed members to bring a unique perspective that will enlighten
conversations with candidates and steer the search committee down the
right path to select final candidates to interview later this year.
In determining which individuals to recommend, the regents on the
presidential search advisory committee evaluated applications based on
criteria intended to assess overall commitment to the university’s core values.
The regents also utilized the equity impact assessment tool to reflect
on their decisions and practices through an equity lens. While only 21 people
were selected, there were many applicants who were equally impressive in
their passion, support, and vision for WSU moving forward. The thoughtful
nature of the responses received is a testament to the enduring strength of
the Cougar spirit, and the regents on the presidential search advisory
committee were appreciative of the amount of interest and the quality of
the applications that were submitted.
As the search process continues, first with onboarding the search
advisory committee members and then facilitating open listening sessions
with community members next fall, we will continue to listen and seek
feedback. We are immensely proud to serve Washington State University,
and we are grateful to have the support of so many throughout this
process.
