Office of the President

February 15, 2024

The launch of the new FAFSA by the U.S. Department of Education has resulted in delays, presenting challenges to students, families, colleges and universities across the nation. Washington State University is responding to these challenges by extending priority dates and deadlines to help prospective students:

Updated Financial Aid and Scholarship Dates for Academic Year 2024–25:

  • FAFSA/WASFA priority submission date: May 1
  • General Scholarship application deadline: May 1
  • FAFSA/WASFA document priority submission date: July 31

I recognize that these changes and delays around the FAFSA may bring on additional feelings of stress and uncertainty as you look to transition into college life. With delayed financial aid information in mind, WSU will work with students to be flexible on application and confirmation dates. I encourage you to look for communication from admission staff about these dates. I assure you that Washington State University is continuing to monitor the situation closely and remains committed to ensuring flexibility and providing support throughout this time of change.

To aid you in your decision, the Office of Admissions and Student Financial Services (SFS) team are available to answer questions and will soon be introducing a new online tool to assist in estimating your financial aid package for the upcoming year. SFS will be reaching out directly over the coming weeks to ensure you have access to eligibility information and updated timelines as they become available.

While the FAFSA may be changing, our application process remains the same. Please continue to move forward through the application process as normal. This will help ensure you stay on track to start classes in the fall.

If you’re in need of additional support, please visit WSU’s financial aid website.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding. We hope to see you in the fall.

Sincerely,
Kirk
